Joanna Lowe – Dental Surgeon
Jo graduated from the Otago School of Dentistry (awarded with credit) in 1996 and has worked in NZ, Australia and the UK. For the past four years she has been a co-owner of Mornington Dental and now Jo and her team have moved to the new larger premises at 161 High Street.
Jo practices preventive dentistry – which means doing everything possible to heal the tooth rather than drill, followed by doing everything possible to establish a healthy well balanced oral flora that will support the teeth and gums long term.
When sheʼs not at Smart Dental Jo is being a wife and a mum to her two amazing boys, and whenever possible, getting out on her mountain bike.
Jo helps teach paediatric dentistry at the Dunedin School of Dentistry and is a member of:
- New Zealand Dental Association
- The New Zealand society of Endodontics
- Australian and New Zealand Society for Paediatric Dentistry
- New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
Jo Macbeth – Dental Hygienist
Joʼs role is to help people keep their mouths healthy. Everyone can benefit from gum treatment and Jo can clean areas that just canʼt be accessed with regular brushing at home. Jo also provides preventive treatments such as sealants and anti-bacterial treatments as well as whitening treatments.
Jo spends a good deal of her time on various sidelines supporting her children, and occasionally manages to get out mountain biking and skiing.
Barb – Practice Manager
Barb has been associated with the dental industry for over 35 years, 25 years of this experience comes from working in Dunedin at Mornington Dental. She now calls Dunedin her home, having moved down from the Canterbury area to undertake the position with Doug Lovell at Mornington Dental all those years ago. Those of you who know Barb will agree she has a passion for her job and a commitment to ensuring people are well looked after. Barb loves what she does and she cares for people from all walks of life.
He aha te mea nui? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata
What is the greatest thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people
Sophie – Dental Assistant
Sophie is a qualified beauty therapist and has previously operated her own business. When sheʼs not at the Smart Dental Care practice, Sophie is kept busy with her husband, two little feisty dogs and the occasional operatic production.
Estelle – Dental Assistant
Thereʼs no picture for Estelle because at the time we put this page up Estelle was in hospital waiting for surgery for a broken ankle! But like Danger Mouse, sheʼs small and tough and wonʼt let a small matter of a search and rescue stretcher ride and a 9 hour trip to the hospital slow her down too much.
Estelle is a nurse with many years experience in oral surgery. If you donʼt spot Estelle around town on crutches, she can often be found walking or biking the hills of Otago.
